Six in ten business owners say that their smartphone is the single most important technology that allows them to do their job
64% of business owners say they have become more reliant on access to mobile data in the last 12 months
Six in ten business owners say that their smartphone is the single most important technology that allows them to do their job and 77% feel that they can either totally or somewhat stay on top of their work using just their smartphone, according to new research published by Three Ireland today. The research was carried out by Behaviour & Attitudes.
It’s clear from the research that mobile working has given greater flexibility to business owners, with 60% saying that mobile working gives them a better work-life balance and 55% cited it has given them the ‘gift of time’.
This research clearly demonstrates that the smartphone is now being used to carry out tasks that would have traditionally been done on a laptop or PC. When presented with the option of using just one device for the working day, over 30% chose a smartphone over a laptop, PC or tablet. Furthermore, almost half of respondents agreed that they would prefer to use their smartphone for work when traveling rather than a laptop or tablet.
Paving the way for this growth in mobile working is the availability of mobile data with over two-thirds (64%) of respondents saying that they are more reliant on access to mobile data in the last 12 months. This growth is evident amongst Three’s business customers whose mobile data use grew 39% last year. SMEs are driving this growth with a 50% increase in demand in 2016 as they continue to realise the benefits of mobile working.
Commenting on the survey findings, Eóin MacManus, Business Director with Three said; “This research shows how crucial smartphones are for business life and how important they are as a tool to help businesses become more efficient. We know the smartphone offers business owners a greater degree of freedom and the increase in demand in mobile data that we are seeing on our network is testament to this.
“A high speed data network is critical for mobile workers and as we continue to work through our €300 million network investment which will deliver a state-of-the-art 4G network, we will be able to further support our customers with their growing mobile data needs” he concluded.
