Join the big broadband switch on with 3

3, Ireland’s largest high speed network, is delighted to announce its sponsorship of this year’s Achill Half Marathon taking place on Saturday, 3rd July, to celebrate the rollout of the National Broadband Scheme.

Now in its fifth year, the Achill Half Marathon attracts people from all over Ireland and this year, once again, 2,000 runners and walkers will descend on Achill Island for the 13.5 mile course across one of the country’s most spectacular and ever changing landscapes.

As a primary sponsor of the 2010 Achill Half Marathon, 3 will cheer on the 2,000 participants every step of the way. Spectators and runners alike can join in the 3 Broadband Experience and learn of the fantastic benefits on the 3 Broadband Experience which will also make its way to Achill for the ever-popular running event.

The big broadband switch-on with 3 has been taking place all over the country, providing even the remotest locations with much-needed broadband as part the national rollout.

3 is committed to bringing broadband to Achill as part of the National Broadband Scheme and the electoral divisions of Corraun and Dooega on the island is set to receive 100% connectivity within the coming weeks.

Damien Gallagher, National Broadband Scheme Project Director at 3 and Achill native commented: “The Achill Half Marathon has evolved into a wonderful event for the island and 3 is delighted to be part of it. The gruelling 13.5 mile trek is made that little easier bit set against the incredible scenery that Achill boasts and 3 will be cheering on the participants every step of the way.”

Gallagher continued, “We are thrilled that an island such as Achill can be connected under the National Broadband Scheme and 3 will continue to play an active role in facilitating rural development and sustaining our regional economies, through the roll-out of the scheme. Hopefully people will come along to the NBS Experience on 3rd July to test out broadband and be in with a chance to win giveaways, surf the web and get tips and advice from 3 on how to make the most of broadband.”

This year the event organisers, Achill Event Management, have selected the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and Mayo Roscommon Hospice as the Achill Half Marathon’s chosen charities, last year in excess of €60,000 was raised from the event.
