Leading mobile broadband provider now holds 40% of market
3, Ireland’s largest high speed network, announced today that it now has over 200,000 customers subscribing to its mobile broadband service, which brings its mobile broadband market share to almost 40% and second only in size to Eircom in the overall broadband market. Part of the Hutchison Whampoa group, 3 was the first company to launch a high-speed mobile broadband service in Ireland. Hutchison Whampoa recently announced that it has 4.5 million mobile broadband customers worldwide.
Speaking on the announcement, 3 CEO, Robert Finnegan said: “Mobile broadband is developing faster than other technologies and it is becoming the technology of choice for first-class connectivity, leveraging the very best of fixed line with the benefits of a cost effective mobile solution. Three in ten Irish people now use mobile broadband to access the internet and we are delighted that 3 continues to be the provider of choice.”
