3, Ireland’s largest high-speed network and official National Broadband Scheme provider, together with Age Action, are hitting the road to find Ireland’s biggest Silver Surfers. 3’s Super Silver Surfing Granny, and her Silver Surf team, will be in Limerick tomorrow, Saturday the 16th of October, to cheer on Munster and also to encourage everyone to nominate any tech-savvy older people they know in this year’s Awards.

The 3 Silver Surfer Awards 2010 with Age Action is open to seniors (over 50) who love to text on their mobile phone, send emails, blog, tweet and use the internet for fun or to improve their everyday lives. The 3 Silver Surfer Team will be challenging people across the country to do things they never thought possible by embracing the latest technology and then enter The 3 Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action.

The 3 Silver Surfer team will be appearing at the following location in Limerick this weekend:

Date                             Time                Location

16th October                   12pm – 2pm      3 Store, 3 Cruises Street, Limerick

16th October                   2:30pm – 6pm   Munster V Toulon @ Thomond Park, Limerick

The 3 Super Silver Surfing Granny and the Silver Surfer team will be snapping pictures on the streets of Limerick and outside Thomond Park and uploading them on to the official Facebook Fanpage as they tour the city looking for fellow Silver Surfers. If you spot the 3 Silver Surfers out and about in your area, why not stop and say hello and get your picture taken? All pictures will be available on http://www.facebook.com/3yourmind.

The 3 Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action aims to acknowledge inspirational people who prove that it is never too late to learn something new. From ordering your shopping online to chatting with relatives all over the world, elderly people can use the latest technology to improve their day-to-day lives. Thanks to the National Broadband Scheme provided by 3, elderly people in rural areas now have greater access to high-speed, quality broadband in their own homes that would never have been possible before.

3’s National Broadband Scheme Director, Damien Gallagher said “3 and the Silver Surfer Team are delighted to be in Limerick cheering on Munster against Toulon and hoping for a home win. We are looking for Limerick people to nominate those who have embraced innovative and creative uses of technology and enter them in the 3 Silver Surfer Awards. As 3 continues to roll out the largest high-speed network in Ireland we regularly encounter the wide-ranging benefits that the internet brings to people’s lives, particularly to older people and those in remote parts of the country.”

Nomination forms are available from Age Action by contacting Ciara Sherlock on 01 475 6989 or ciaras@ageaction.ie , alternatively fill in a form online at www.ageaction.ie/silversurfer.
