3 confirms Make-A-Wish as Charity of Choice for the 3 Irish Open

3, Ireland’s largest high speed network, has today announced the Make-A-Wish Foundation as the chosen charity for this year’s 3 Irish Open, which takes place in Killarney from the 29th July to 1st August.
The association with the Make-A-Wish Foundation means that Friday the 30th July will be Purple Day at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, a purple – themed day with all the players and fans invited to wear purple, while there will be purple 3 Irish Open caps on sale with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
As part of this partnership between the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the 3 Irish Open, a magical wish will be granted in three stages to one young golf fan. Peter McEnery, a 14-year-old from Killarney, who lives with cystic fibrosis, today received part of his wish for the 3 Irish Open in Dublin.
Peter was presented with his dream set of golf clubs ahead of the 3 Irish Open. A number of top golf brands that sponsor the golfers on the European Tour, including Nike, Taylormade, Ping, Titleist, Callaway and Wilson, have supplied their finest equipment to Peter, to give him a set to match any of his golfing heroes. This will ensure that Peter is a superstar when he goes to watch the 3 Irish Open in Killarney on the August Bank holiday weekend, also three time Major Champion Padraig Harrington will be assisting with Peter’s Wish at the start of the Championship next week.
Elaine Carey, Sales and Marketing Director, 3 said; “3 are delighted to have the Make-A-Wish Foundation on board as this year’s chosen charity for the 3 Irish Open. Make-A-Wish are no ordinary charity, they make children and their parents lives better on a daily basis, they make wishes come true. We are privileged to be in a position to give something back to them and in particular to Peter who is going to be the envy of every golf fan in the world by the time the 3 Irish Open begins. We also get the chance to raise money and raise awareness with Purple Day on the Friday, when we hope everyone will wear purple, along with half of all the proceeds of the entry to the Kids Zone going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”
Susan O’Dwyer, Chief Executive, Make-A-Wish Foundation, said; “Make-A-Wish is delighted to have been chosen to be the charity partner of the 3 Irish Open. I would like to extend our thanks to 3, the European Tour, the players and official suppliers of the Tour for their support helping to realise Peter’s wish in a magical way. A wish can make a real difference not only for a child with a life-threatening medical condition but the whole family if only for a short while and brings some joy and happiness amidst their enormous challenges. We would appeal to the 3 Irish Open Golfing Fans to visit our stand in the tented village and generously donate to Make-A-Wish or online at www.makeawish.ie. Come and join Peter and the many players who will wear the magical colour purple on Peter’s wish day Friday the 30th July.”
