Former European Tour player and Cork man John McHenry is spearheading the drive to create the best Irish golf tournament in years. Having previously held the position of Director of Golf at the K Club and Director of Golf for the Ryder Cup in 2006, McHenry has joined Ireland’s fastest growing mobile network 3, as its Golf Consultant. His aim in this role is to create a superb golfing tournament and he is already hitting this objective.

The Douglas man has already ensured that three times major champion, Padraig Harrington will be playing at the 3 Irish Open when it tees off in Co Louth Golf club, Baltray from May 14th – 17th. While Harrington will ensure to be a major draw for spectators, so too will the irrepressible Colin Montgomery, who has also recently confirmed his participation. Through securing big name players and by bringing the Irish Open back to its grass roots, McHenry is passionate about creating a tournament that will live long in the memory, ‘The 3 Irish Open is shaping up to be a tournament that golfing fans should not miss. The combination of the leading players on the Tour participating, added to the excitement being generated by the member of clubs around the country who are getting involved through the Pro Am gives me great conviction that we will see a fantastic tournament on the challenging links course in Co Louth’ he stated.

Always a popular figure on the Irish Golf scene John spent 12 years on Tour and won the Open de Lyon on the Challenge Tour in 1991 and he is bringing this experience to innovatively involve those interested in golf ‘We have put in place a number of new ideas such as the special Pink charity day on the Friday of the 3 Irish Open. In this association with the Marie Keating Foundation we invite young and old to join a host of Pink festivities to support and raise awareness for breast cancer. This initiative combined with Irelands first ever golf podcast and our golf simulator which is travelling the country is to ensure that all the community can be involved in what is the greatest game’
